Is osteopathy suitable for children in Bristol?

I've had patients asking me is osteopathy suitable for children in Bristol, so I thought a blog post about the subject would be helpful for 2024.

As visitors to my Henleaze osteopathic clinic know, my osteopathic approach is a holistic and gentle approach to treating the body and is suitable for both adults and children.

Any osteopath in Bristol will aim to promote balance and healing within the patient's body regardless of age.

Osteopaths can treat young and old to promote better body health.

What ages of children do Bristol osteopaths treat?

Put simply, infants and children of all ages. I treat newborn babies with very gentle cranial osteopathy techniques which can help with issues following childbirth, such as feeding problems for babies such as colic.

Babies have a lot to deal with in their early stages and often gentle osteopathic treatment at my Bristol clinic can help them adjust to the big changes in their new world. And, as every parent will testify, a happy baby that sleeps also means happy parents.

How does a Bristol osteopath treat children?

This depends largely on their age, as well as the condition being treated.

For babies, I would treat them using a very gentle cranial osteopathic approach. For older kids with injuries from general activities or sports, my approach is gentle and non-invasive and may include gentle mechanical and muscular techniques similar to an adult's.

Babies and children heal quickly, so my job as an osteopath in BS6 is to balance their bodies and get the healing process moving. Mother Nature then takes over rapidly.

What sort of conditions might a Bristol osteopath be able to help children with?

The list is not exhaustive, but there are some typical conditions that parents might seek osteopathic care for their children, such as:

Babies - colic, sleeping issues, unhappy/unsettled toddlers, babies struggling to feed.

Older kids - activity-related injuries, general aches and pains, growing pains, back and postural issues, headaches.
