As an experienced and competitive runner, I understand the importance of the treatment and prevention of running injuries in Bristol.
And having been a practising, registered osteopath in Bristol for almost 30 years, and have also treated many patients/athletes who have sustained running injuries.
What are running injuries?
Running injuries are usually issues in lower limbs, such as hip, knee, ankle and foot injuries, or muscular issues with Quads, hamstrings or calf muscles. Shin splints, pelvic imbalances and core instability are common issues I come across.
I often find that running injuries can be traced to lower back, core muscle and pelvic dysfunction.
Running injuries can be difficult for some patients to recover from, as they usually require a level of rest and recovery, as well as specific treatment and bespoke rehab exercises.
How to treat running injuries
My osteopathic motto is 'prevention is better than cure', but usually patients have already sustained a running injury, and treatment with rehab is their only available option.
When it comes to the treatment of running injuries in Bristol, I provide fast and accurate diagnosis of the specific issue, with swift management of the injury.
Early osteopathic treatment can also identify other minor and possibly contributory issues, which helps prevent further and more damaging injuries from happening whilst running.
The most effective way to treat a running injury is with effective osteopathic treatment and appropriate rehabilitation exercises to speed the recovery process.
As a Bristol osteopath, I provide patients suffering from running injuries with a skilled diagnosis, professional treatment, and bespoke rehab exercises for recovery.
How to prevent running injuries
There are some simple techniques to help prevent running injuries that I advise patients to be mindful of when looking to reduce the likelihood of future running-based issues.
Strengthen the core - Good core strength goes a long way to preventing injury and is a major player in fast rehab from an injury.
Hydration - the body needs water (and electrolytes) to maintain healthy muscles, joints and ligaments.
Stretching - Stretching exercises are vital when it comes to lowering the chances of sustaining running injuries. It is critical to stretch and stay supple.
Maintenance - keeping the body in good overall condition throughout the year is important. We MOT our cars annually, so why not do the same for our bodies? One of my most popular treatments patients utilise to prevent is a Maintenance Osteopathic Treatment (MOT).
