As an experienced osteopath in BS6, I sometimes get asked by patients for advice when on an NHS waiting list for a physio in Bristol.
The NHS is an incredible institution, but it is also under massive strain, as we all know.
Anybody in Bristol can access physiotherapy for free through the NHS, but there will be a waiting list to navigate before seeing anyone.
NHS waiting lists
According to the BMA, the average waiting time in 2025 for a patient to start any kind of treatment is currently standing at nearly 14 weeks.
To put this into a nationwide perspective, there are now more than six million patients waiting for NHS-referred treatment, with more than 180,000 having been waiting for 12 months or more.

One of the problems of being on an NHS waiting list for a physio in Bristol is that what begins as a short-term problem can develop over time into a chronic, longer-term issue if left too long.
Why book privately with an osteopath?
Patients who have the means to book an osteopath in Bristol privately can access rapid diagnosis and treatment, enabling swift, early management of a problem and fast improvement in quality of life.
This will usually lead to swifter recovery, and possibly unloading some hard-pressed NHS resources.
Having osteopathic treatment while on an NHS waiting list for a physio in Bristol can also reduce the burden on an NHS physiotherapist when it is time for them to see a patient.
Most physios will provide great exercise-based treatment. The osteopath can focus on diagnosis, treatment, and early rehab exercises using a unique and holistic approach that is bespoke to each patient.
